The Save Playcentre group has provided templates on their page for individual and centre submissions re the Task Force recommendations. Click on the links here or in the list on the right to go there. Remember you only have a couple of weeks now to have your say.

Learning environment
A high quality learning environment is responsive to the learning interests and strengths of the children attending. In this environment, children select learning resources and make choices about what they want to do, in a culturally relevant setting that stimulates their curiosity to explore and learn.What was the quality of the learning environment?
The learning environment in Playcentres was typically high quality. The indoor environment was attractive, stimulating and carefully organised to provide for children’s diverse interests and abilities. Outdoor areas were usually spacious, interesting and provided for physical activity and challenge in a safe environment.
The learning environment was well resourced with a wide range of appropriate equipment and materials that generally catered well for the age range of the children.
Playcentres were well maintained and resourced, providing rich and challenging learning experiences in the indoor and outdoor areas, and in the wider communities through planned excursions. High quality, well-organised and developmentally appropriate resources and equipment were accessible to children to support their learning in all areas of play.
Displays of children’s work in most Playcentres reflected the members’ enthusiasm for the learning process. Outside areas were generally spacious and well equipped with activities that promoted physical challenge and stimulated children’s play. Playcentre environments were highly conducive to self-directed learning.
Spacious and attractive outdoor environments were a feature across the association. They provided a continuum of physical challenges and expressive play experiences for children of differing abilities and ages. Verandas provided transitional spaces between indoor and outside play areas, and were used well in inclement weather.

Playcentre is special
There is nothing in the world quite like Playcentre. We are a licensed, funded ( for now) early childhood education service that is run by the parents of the children who attend. We have been around for over 60 years and have provided quality ECE, parent education, ECE teaching qualifications, time out for parents, support for parents and grandparents, aunties and uncles and wider family members. We have provided extended family for many parents who live far from their biological family. Parents have developed skills and confidence in their Playcentre roles which have helped them into paid employment, Boards of Trustees and further study in ECE and beyond. Playcentre people are at the forefront of many early childhood organisations, teacher education providers, and other educational organisations.

Why another Blog?
I am concerned about the current recommendations from the ECE Taskforce which, if taken up by the Government, will mean a 2/3 cut in funding for Playcentres. I want to do something about getting information "out there" about this. I have been sharing information on Facebook but I am also aware that many people choose not to join that evil world <g>
I decided tonight that one thing I could do was to create a page to act as yet another portal to information in the hope that this will spead the discussions further so that we can get as many people as possible talking and sharing and feeding back responses to this taskforce report. I know that my Assessment Blog is still accessed by numbers of readers (In spite of a lack of updates from me!) and perhaps if this Blog is open adn linked to that blog I might be able to do some good. So no more marking tonight. Blogging Time.
